This basement area (in a home which Joanna hopes to rent out) was a bit sad and lifeless before a floor tile perk-up and a bit of cheer on the kitchen backsplash. Porcelain was the material of choice. This material has its advantages and disadvantages. It is dense, thus harder and more water-resistant. But the density makes it brittle and stubborn under the cutting wheel. Once installed, though, it is the most durable of this type of tile and its color (unlike its cousin ceramic) is through and through. Because of porcelain's water impermeability, more and more porcelain tiles are being approved for outdoor use. No fun to install, but lots of fun to enjoy for years and years thereafter. Let us know if we can help you out with a tile job in your home or rental!
